The Week in Detail:
Mornings and late afternoons David will guide you through a pure, straightforward and joyful classic hatha yoga practice. Each class will be different, reflecting the needs of that day and you, the people in the class.
The practices begin with you, and are wrapped around the breath – pranayama. Whether it is a simple grounding exercise opening the practice, or a dynamic asana challenging the body in a twist, breath will always be the centre. Yoga is not about mastering poses, but learning to master ourselves with the poses as our toolbox, and the breath is the key to that.
The philosophical roots of yoga have long been a deep passion of David’s and are how he tries to live his life. He will lead a separate session on yoga philosophy
Freediving is a fast growing sport, drawing on mental and physical disciplines and drawing you into a world of unimaginable calm and beauty – it can be a truly wonderful life changing experience. If you have never tried it, make this the year you take that leap into the deep blue.
During the AIDA 1 course (which we will do over two mornings) you will learn to unlock your body’s potential to dive on one breath. We are all born with this ability and re-discovering it brings a deep wonder. On the third and fourth mornings we will take you out snorkeling on the fantastic reefs of Savusavu Bay to practice what you have learnt .
Note: You must be able to swim 200 metres unaided in open water
Daku Resort – Daku Resort has all the pleasures of a bure in a traditional bay-side resort without the prices of a five star resort. It’s that combination of comfortable accommodation, good food, great setting and fabulous staff that has made us one of the best resorts in Savusavu.
David Anderson – David has retired to Fiji after a career in technology and 15 years of owning and teaching in yoga studios in Boston and Florida. He came to Yoga in 2000 and began teaching in 2003. Most of his teachers came from the traditional teaching of Krishnamacharya and so he has a passion for the true goals of yoga and the positive impact it can have on everyone’s life. He works to teach people what he was taught – to live well, live happy, and live in joy through the life practice called yoga.
David has taught more than 5,000 classes around the world, including at the world-famous Parmath Niketon Ashram in Rishikesh, India. His classes are truly for “Every Body”, regardless of shape, size, experience, age or ability. Each class will be different, tailored to the needs of that day and that group of people. Expect to smile, laugh, and have fun. He is registered with the Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT200 and a teacher-of-teachers.
Neelam Ratan and Tobi Raff – Neelam and Tobi have been living underwater for half their lives – well, almost! Neelam was born and raised in Fiji and knows the ocean of Savusavu Bay intimately. She was the first Fijian woman to become a qualified freediver and has taught many women and men the skills of this amazing sport.Tobi moved to Fiji 10 years ago after a career in photography both above and below the water, and together they have established a unique business in the Northern Islands of Fiji.
