Since the start of COVID 19, we have made some important changes to the website and other platforms to enable people to find the appropriate information they require within a few clicks of the mouse. This has formed an interactive platform where people can ask questions and discuss subjects on the website, enriching the narrative and securing knowledge in one place for future reference.

‘The country symbolises the soul of every Fijian; the beaches and sands that sweep our shorelines represent our external beauty. As you slowly move inland, you discover the resilience, strength, and natural raw beauty of the mountains and waterfalls. This is the core strength that keeps us strong and admired around the world.’

Guiding Basic Principles we follow

Powerful agents for positive change We believe your mindset, choices, and purchases can have a big impact on people and places when you travel across Fiji.

  • Be curious: Treat travel as a learning opportunity, first and foremost. Keep your eyes and your mind open. Indulge your curiosity. Be brave, and find your own journey of discovery.
  • Appreciate, not appropriate: Research and ask questions about a place before you go while on the road. Strive to understand and respect cultural and religious nuances and customs. Appreciate; don’t appropriate traditions from other cultures.
  • Seek Meaning: Seek meaningful travel experiences and connections. Make an effort to be more than a spectator; engage and participate whenever you can. Learn a few words of the local lingo. Your efforts won’t go unnoticed, and neither will a smile.
  • Share your stories: Share your stories, your expertise, and what you’ve learned. More importantly, be a good listener. Every single one of us has something to contribute. Explore the differing perspectives you encounter, and spend time trying to actively understand them.
  • Tread Lightly: Choose the path less travelled and tread lightly along the way. Offset your carbon footprint, use less plastic, and make the most sustainable choice where you can. If you think somewhere is amazing, chances are future generations will too; make sure it’s there for them to experience.
  • Buy Locally and Responsibly: Use your travel dollars to make a positive impact. Question where the money goes before you book; make sure the locals are benefiting from your travel choices. Buy locally and responsibly.
  • Be agents of positive change:  Most importantly, be an ambassador for yourself and your fellow nomads. You are more than just travellers; you are also powerful agents for positive change.

Journey of Discovery

In this section, we are going to briefly explain how the company has evolved over the last few years. You could easily identify our business as the Beta Max of the world. Even though we produce the best products and services for the tourism industry, it is a lot harder to break the marketing barrier where people can find your resources, so the end user can benefit from the vast information and the venues in Fiji to be found and flourish.

So since the pandemic of 2019, we have been working extensively in the background, working on the website and social media platforms, forming a resource that can be accessed and added to enriching the knowledge of the locals and tourists so we can all become ambassadors of this great nation. Detailed below, we touch upon the different products our team has produced and released over the last five years.

  2. Fiji Pocket Guide

Fiji Journal Pocket Guide

Fiji Travel Journal Bannee

The journal was printed on A5 paper and had 300 pages in full colour.

A 2019 study conducted in the United States concluded that consumers trust, appreciate, and understand information better when it is read on paper. One of the main reasons discovered through the study was that people shared printed information more easily.

The targeted audience for the journals varied depending on the destination, with the primary audience across the board being the tourist market. In Suva, the journal was an asset to the embassies, expats working on fixed contracts, and business meetings and conferences happening across the country at different intervals throughout the year. The journal was completely free to the end-user, avoiding any barriers.

Our intention was two-fold:

  1. To empower the tourist with information about different venues and opportunities across the full breadth of the tourism market. and then directing them to the appropriate tourist desk or online booking system.
  2. Provide an opportunity for every venue to display their product directly to the end-user.

Fiji Journal is the leading online Fiji events platform, with updates every day from the team. Prior to COVID-19, we released a weekly interactive events guide and distributed the resource via email and social media platforms. The company was in preliminary talks with Tourism Fiji to work alongside them to help promote the venues and the diverse events happening across the islands. Due to changes in management and priorities, unfortunately, this business relationship never came to fruition. Listed below is the Fiji Events Magazine Archive, which received over 10,000 page views per week.

Mobile App – Fiji in the Palm of your Hand 2017 – 2021

Fiji Journal Mobile App

This was the first phone app to be released in Fiji, and it served the tourism market extensively for 3 years prior to COVID-19, providing the tourism community with daily updates, promotions, and events with a full directory of all venues across Fiji. The app was released on the Google and Apple platforms, with quarterly updates to the software.

A new locally built travel application will now allow tourists to have Fiji in the palm of their hand. What’s On Pacifica (WOP) director of operations Fareena Barnes said: “WOP A new locally built travel application will now allow tourists to have Fiji in the palm of their hand.

What’s On Pacifica (WOP) director of operations Fareena Barnes said: “WOP FIJI Travel App is a marketing mobile online platform that enriches the tourist’s exposure to a larger more diverse set of registered business in and around FIJI.

“From tour guides such as urban Nadi Adventures, a young entrepreneur providing a cultural adventure across the nation to large international organisations such as Sofitel Resorts that supports many localised charities.  “We are placing in the hands of every tourist coming to Fiji an up to date in depth catalogue of companies at a price that allows them to market themselves directly to the tourist.”

The app was founded by Dave and Fareena Barnes through their Nadi-based company, WOP, that was founded three years ago.  According to Ms Barnes, the app was placed on Google Play and Apple Store two months ago to test its full functionality.  Rosie Group is also the other company that launched a digital travel app — FeeJee Traveller — last year.

She said this was the first time they were publishing the application for people to download.

“Time and energy has been the main investment so far into the app. Financially, we project-managed this so we could bring the app to the market.  “No wages were paid. It has been a project of passion between my husband and I,” Ms Barnes said. “WOP FIJI is available 365 days a year 24 hours a day this is truly Fiji in the palm of your hand.”

A new mobile and online travel application has been developed by a local company that will give travellers information about Fiji’s diverse tropical tourism destinations.

Known as the WOP FIJI (Original Name of Company) Travel App, the mobile app was developed by Nadi-based company Whats On Pacifica (WOP) and spearheaded by couple Dave and Fareena Barnes.

Mrs. Barnes, who is the company director of operators, said the app was designed to provide a mobile phone marketing application that benefited both tourists and the local populations equally.  The WOP FIJI travel app is a mobile marketing platform that enriches tourists exposure to a larger, more diverse set of registered businesses in and around Fiji.  From tour guides such as Urban Nadi Adventures to a young entrepreneur providing a cultural adventure across the nation to large international organisations such as Sofitel, we are placing in the hands of every tourist coming to Fiji an up-to-date, in-depth catalogue of companies that allows them to market themselves directly to the tourist.’

The app provides detailed and up-to date information about the most important tourism venues around Fiji, where they can research and make reservations for Fijian activities, restaurants, hotels, and tours, and at the same time support registered smaller and medium-sized companies with a means of marketing in a cost-effective way.

‘We are now living in a world where people are becoming more and more digitally connected, using these mediums to manage their lives. With the WOP Fiji App, we are exposing international visitors to a more diverse, unique, and inspiring Fiji. Mrs. Barnes said

‘WOP Fiji is available 366 days a year, 24 hours a day–this is truly Fiji in the palm of your hand’.  Time and energy have been the main investments so far in the app. Specifically, we project managed this so we could bring the app to market. No wages were paid; it has been a project of passion between my husband and me.

Mrs. Barnes added that the app was placed on Google Play and Apple Stores around two months ago to test the full functionality of the live app.  The cost of being placed on the app is $250 per year, equivalent to $4.80 per week, which is the same price for a small company as for a large organization. Mrs. Barnes added.  This is the first time we are publishing this application for people to download; she said.

The creative talent and entrepreneurial spirit in the country are boundless. Let’s tap into this and really create a diverse multicultural multicultural environment where hard work, passion, and dedication determine a person’s ability for success, not their financial standing. Together, we can work together as a family or businesses.

The soft launch of the APP will be held on Friday.
