Our passionate team at Fiji Journal (FJ), individually and collectively, has, throughout our lives, steadily given back to different communities within Fiji and across the world. Every year, we allocate a week or more with the sole purpose of providing much-needed help to different volunteering organizations and charities across the country. When you volunteer, you have the opportunity to make a true difference in the lives of others, but profoundly enough, the changes you make in yourself are equally life-changing. Experience paradise through the volunteer lens, and you will never look back.
We have listed below our top six personal takeaways we have experienced on our volunteering journey so far, with a table of some of the opportunities and organizations within Fiji with their individual links for further information. These range from environmental, Healthcare, Community, Animals, Education, and NGOs.
- It Provides you with a sense of purpose – Become something greater than yourself, by working towards an endeavor that benefits others.
- Provides a sense of community – A community spirit, individuals come together at the beginning and leave as an extended member of the Fijian family. Working together for the benefit of others. One person’s action can make a substantial difference to a whole community.
- Helps you meet new friends – As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to meet a diverse group of new people from all walks of life, different ages, different professions, and different cultures from around the world. We have made several lifelong friends through our adventures that we may not have met otherwise, enriching our lives well beyond the volunteering experience. Life Changing
- Increases your social skills – While some people are naturally outgoing, others are shy and have a hard time meeting new people. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to practice and develop your social skills since you are meeting regularly with a group of people with common interests.
- Teaches you valuable skills – The training and hands-on experience you gain while volunteering can help you learn new skills as well as build upon ones you already have.
- Gets you out of your comfort zone – Through volunteer work, you may overcome the personal challenges of leaving your comfort zone and doing something new with people you may not know. You may be faced with various problems to solve as a volunteer that require you to exercise critical thinking skills that aid your own personal development.
