The Lomaiviti islands lie east of Viti Levu, around the Koro Sea. They offer a different Fiji journey from the resort routes west of Nadi: the historic streets of Levuka on Ovalau; small island stays reached from the Suva and Nausori side of Viti Levu; and farther-flung islands whose boats, flights or hosts need deliberate arrangements. Levuka Historical Port Town is a UNESCO World Heritage property, but it remains a working town and the wider group remains home to communities, not simply a collection of visitor resorts.
The crucial first decision is which Lomaiviti trip you mean. A heritage visit to Levuka, a Leleuvia beach stay, a Toberua resort holiday and a remote dive voyage do not share one departure point or one booking method. Nor does seeing several islands on a map mean there is a convenient passenger ferry between them. Choose your experience, then build the complete route to your bed and back to the mainland.
Quick answer: Choose Ovalau and Levuka for a slower, history-led stay; allow at least two nights if travelling overland and by ferry so you have a full day there. Choose Leleuvia for an arranged small-island stay from Bau Landing, or Toberua for a resort-organised road-and-boat connection near Nausori. Consider Wakaya, Koro, Gau and other outer islands only after a particular host or operator confirms access, accommodation and return. Budget the transfer chain as carefully as the room, and keep a mainland buffer before a fixed international flight.

Lomaiviti at a Glance
The name covers several quite different journeys. Read the islands as a set of possible bases and operator-specific routes, rather than as a hop-on island circuit.
Question | Planning answer | Why it matters |
Most distinctive first visit | Levuka on Ovalau | Heritage townscape, local life and a contrasting Fiji itinerary. |
Main mainland planning base | Suva and the eastern Viti Levu/Nausori corridor | Many practical connections begin on this side of the main island. |
Ovalau sea route | Confirm the current Suva/road-to-Natovi, ferry-to-Buresala or Levuka, and onward ground leg with the actual operator | A ticket to Buresala does not place you in Levuka town. |
Small-island options | Leleuvia, Toberua and selected properties with their own transfer arrangements | Each uses a specific pickup point, boat and booking rule. |
Remote options | Wakaya, Koro, Gau and other islands only with confirmed access | A map name does not imply a daily tourist service or available room. |
Heritage status | UNESCO-listed Levuka Historical Port Town, inscribed in 2013 | The listing concerns a defined town property, not every beach in Lomaiviti. |
Cost and timing surprise | Multiple road, boat and last-mile charges; limited services outside towns | Compare a complete return itinerary, not a room-only rate. |
Fiji Journal Local Perspective: For this group, the transfer is part of the product. Ask the accommodation to describe the route all the way from your mainland starting point to its door before paying for either a room or a boat.
Plan Your Lomaiviti Stay
These fifteen decisions take you from the purpose of the trip to the return connection. The examples are starting points, not promises of current availability, safe conditions or open access.
1. Decide Whether Lomaiviti Fits Your Fiji Trip
Lomaiviti is especially rewarding if you want history, a smaller working town, community-led experiences or an island stay reached from the Suva side of Fiji. It can also suit experienced divers whose operator has a confirmed itinerary around the Koro Sea. The slower movement between places is an asset when you allow time for it, and a problem when you try to force a western-island schedule onto the region.
If the holiday is only a beach day from Nadi or Denarau, the Mamanuca Islands are generally the more direct comparison. If you want a planned multi-island western resort route, compare the Yasawas. If you want restaurants and museums without a boat crossing, Suva is the simpler base. Choose Lomaiviti because its own places and stories matter to you.
Choose Lomaiviti when… | Reconsider the route when… |
Levuka’s streets and the living history of Ovalau are a main reason to go. | You want only a resort beach with the fastest transfer from Nadi. |
You have time to confirm ferries, last-mile transport and a return buffer. | You have one spare afternoon between fixed flights. |
The selected island host can organise a real boat or flight. | You are assuming one public ferry serves every named island. |
Your next step: Write “heritage”, “small-island stay”, “private resort” or “remote expedition” at the top of your plan. That one choice determines the right departure point.

2. Read the Map Before Choosing an Island
Ovalau, with Levuka on its eastern coast, is the clearest first-time anchor. Closer to eastern Viti Levu, Leleuvia and Toberua can be reached through their own resort arrangements. Moturiki and Bau are inhabited and culturally significant; neither should be marketed as an unbooked beach stop. Farther out, Wakaya has a private resort with its own air connection, while Makogai, Gau, Koro and smaller islands have very different access and visitor infrastructure.
Planning area | What it offers | Access question |
Ovalau / Levuka | World Heritage town and guided island context | Does your ferry arrive at Buresala or Levuka, and who provides the road leg? |
Leleuvia | Small-island beach and reef stay | Is the confirmed boat from Bau Landing, and what meals and transfer fees apply? |
Toberua | Resort-led small-island stay near the Nausori corridor | Is the property arranging vehicle and boat connections from your real arrival point? |
Wakaya | Private resort and resort-organised air arrival | Are aircraft, baggage, connection and package inclusions written into the quote? |
Koro, Gau, Makogai and other islands | Host-specific stays, community connections or specialist voyages where available | Is there a named, bookable operator or invitation for both directions? |
Visitor Advisory – Names and access: Levuka is a town on Ovalau; the UNESCO listing is a defined historic town property. A ferry advertised for “Ovalau” may land at Buresala, requiring a separate trip to Levuka. A resort boat from Bau Landing is a different journey again. UNESCO’s property description explains the Levuka site and its setting.

3. How Many Nights Make the Trip Worthwhile?
Count the useful time at your destination after the road and sea legs. A two-night stay can deliver a full Levuka day if arrival and return connections align; a single night can become mostly transit. On a small resort island, two or three nights may be enough to settle in, but poor transfer times can shorten them. A remote island needs more flexibility than a town close to frequent services.
Time available | Better starting shape | Main limitation |
One day | A specifically confirmed Leleuvia day visit from its designated landing, or a local experience while already near Suva | Do not assume Levuka is a casual Nadi day trip. |
One night | Only if both transfers and your one planned activity are secure | Any change can consume nearly the entire visit. |
Two to three nights | One Ovalau/Levuka base or one small island | Usually gives one or two full days rather than changing rooms. |
Four to six nights | Levuka plus one confirmed second stay, or a slower single-island holiday | The connecting route must exist on your dates. |
Longer | A specialist dive or community-linked itinerary with the appropriate host | Remote transport and weather deserve additional slack. |
Fiji Journal Advice: Treat an Ovalau-plus-Leleuvia trip as two separately verified journeys. Ask both hosts how you move between them; Leleuvia says Levuka transfers can be arranged, but availability and minimum conditions must be confirmed directly on its transfer page.

4. Make Levuka the Centre of an Ovalau Visit
Levuka’s Beach Street, waterfront buildings and steep green backdrop make the town legible on foot, but the appeal is not just an old façade. Its port developed alongside indigenous settlements and through the tensions of trade, missionary activity, colonial rule and local adaptation. The town became Fiji’s first colonial capital after cession in 1874, and the capital moved to Suva in 1882. UNESCO’s account specifically includes former indigenous village sites, port infrastructure, educational and religious buildings in its explanation of the town’s value. Read that history with a local guide, not as a simple celebration of empire. UNESCO’s site description is the useful starting reference.
Plan a walk along Beach Street and side lanes with time to notice building uses, the seafront and the topography. A guided heritage walk can explain what still functions, which buildings can be entered, and how local families and institutions relate to the protected town. Public streets can be walked, but a historic name does not make a residence, school or worship space open to visitors. Check actual opening and guide availability before listing any interior as a guaranteed stop.
Stay overnight if you want an unhurried morning, a second conversation with a guide, or a drive elsewhere on Ovalau. Historic accommodation can be atmospheric but may have stairs, older bathrooms and different cooling arrangements from a modern resort. Ask for photographs of the exact room. For deeper background, use UNESCO’s Levuka record and Fiji Government heritage material rather than relying on a simplified tourism chronology.
History & Heritage Advisory: Levuka is not a museum set. It is a living town containing homes, schools, churches, businesses, public buildings and protected heritage. Some historic places are visible only from public streets, opening arrangements can change, and photography may be inappropriate in particular settings. Treat the UNESCO designation as a reason to move more carefully, not as blanket permission to enter or photograph every old building.
Your next step: Book the Levuka bed and guide together, then ask where your ferry lands and how you reach the accommodation.

5. Go Beyond the Town on Ovalau With a Local Plan
Ovalau has villages, volcanic terrain, coastal roads and viewpoints beyond the Levuka waterfront. That makes a longer stay attractive, but the island is not an unrestricted trail network. A route to a village, ridge or waterfall can cross customary land; conditions, road surfaces and permission vary. Ask your host for a local guide, vehicle and current route, and agree on fees and the return time beforehand.
Lovoni in Ovalau’s interior is often mentioned in visitor itineraries, but a village visit should be arranged with people who host it. Check whether the trip includes road transport, a guide, any agreed community contribution and the walking required. Do not arrive expecting access to homes, ceremonies or an invented performance. The same care applies to photography and drone use around communities and heritage areas.
If you are hiring transport on Ovalau, establish whether the driver is meeting you at Buresala or Levuka, what roads the vehicle can use, and whether a late return is possible. A general “island tour” listing may omit the actual ferry connection. Carry water, sun protection and suitable shoes; ask about wet-weather changes to a planned walk.
Fiji Journal Local Perspective: The most useful guide explains who lives in the places you are seeing and whose permission makes the visit possible. That is a better Ovalau day than racing to collect scenic stops.

6. Choose an Island Stay: Leleuvia, Toberua or Wakaya
These are examples of distinct products, not interchangeable resorts. Match the island to your arrival side of Fiji, room style, food, activities and onward journey.
Island / example | Useful fit | Confirm before paying |
Leleuvia Island Resort | Smaller-island stay or a specifically offered day visit from Bau Landing; private bures and dormitory options are advertised | Booking-dependent boat, compulsory meal plan, transfer charge, room facilities, swimming conditions. |
Toberua Island Resort | More resort-led stay with a property-organised road and boat arrival from the Suva/Nausori side | Exact pickup, transfer fee, meal basis, room, boat conditions and return connection. |
Wakaya Island Resort & Spa | Private-island stay built around the resort’s own aircraft and package | Flight and baggage conditions, what the rate includes, cancellation and international-flight buffer. |
Levuka town accommodation | History-first visit, independent meals and local guiding | Actual room condition, mobility, ground transfer, food opening hours. |
Leleuvia’s accommodation page explicitly says its meal plan is compulsory; its transfer page describes booking-dependent boats from Bau Landing. Toberua’s getting-here page describes its arranged vehicle and boat connection, while its FAQ says transfers are charged separately from the room. Wakaya’s FAQ describes its resort aircraft from Nadi and included meals and snacks, with alcohol extra. Verify every detail in the offer for your dates.
Your next step: Request an all-in quote for the same number of guests and nights, including every meal, airport-to-boat leg, boat or aircraft, taxes and likely activities.
7. Calculate the Full Cost, Not the Displayed Room Rate
A Lomaiviti trip can involve a Nadi-to-Suva road journey or domestic flight, a further drive to the correct landing, a boat, and a last road leg on Ovalau. On another island the resort may package some of those parts but price food or transfers separately. Comparing accommodation alone can reverse the apparent value of two stays.
Build the total in this order:
- Room: dates, number and ages of guests, taxes and mandatory property charges.
- Food: included meals versus compulsory plan, arrival/departure meals, drinks and dietary arrangements.
- Outbound and return transport: each road, boat or flight sector, including local pickup and baggage terms.
- Experiences: heritage guide, island tour, reef boat, diving, equipment and agreed community contributions.
- Contingency: an extra mainland night, altered sailing or separate onward flight when needed.
For example, a dorm bed on Leleuvia cannot be compared with a Levuka guesthouse or a Toberua bure until the meal basis and complete transport are added. Similarly, Wakaya’s room package and private air access should be compared as one product. Avoid publishing fixed fares in an evergreen guide: operator pages can change, and the confirmed booking is what matters.
Visitor Advisory – Quoted total: Ask which charges are per room, per person and per return trip. Save the written answers; an accommodation platform may show the room while leaving the island transfer to the property.

Compare Places to Stay in Lomaiviti
Accommodation in Lomaiviti ranges from historic guesthouses around Levuka and Ovalau to small-island resorts such as Toberua and more specialised private-island stays. Compare the complete stay rather than the room price alone, because meals, boat transfers and onward transport may be charged separately. Use the links below to compare availability and rates, then check the property’s own transfer arrangements before booking.

8. Arrange a Respectful Heritage or Village Experience
Levuka is a living town, and the surrounding islands are home to communities with their own priorities and access rules. A guided visit should be invited and locally led. Ask who hosts it, what you can see, what is paid to whom, and how to behave at any village, place of worship or customary site. Follow instructions about modest clothing and photography, and accept changes to a planned visit.
UNESCO’s World Heritage status is an obligation to care for a particular townscape, not a ticket to enter every building. A local heritage guide helps distinguish accessible streets and public sites from homes or private workplaces. Bau’s chiefly significance likewise does not make it an unscheduled sightseeing landing. Ask a legitimate host to arrange access if a cultural visit is offered.
A sevusevu may be appropriate for some village visits, but the host should tell you if and how it is done for that occasion. Do not arrive with a rehearsed ceremony or assume the same protocol applies everywhere; the local host’s specific directions take priority.
Your next step: Choose a named local guide or host and get the meeting point, fee, duration, walking conditions and photography expectations in writing.

9. Beaches, Reefs, Diving and What the Water Is Actually Like
The group has reef and dive appeal, but Lomaiviti is not one continuous swimming beach. A Levuka town stay is a heritage choice. A small island resort may have a beach whose depth and safe entry change with tide. A reef site described by a liveaboard may be inaccessible or unsuitable for a novice shore snorkeller. Ask a property to describe the beach at both high and low tide, the current, the entry, supervision and the difference between included shore activities and paid boat excursions.
Leleuvia advertises snorkelling and other activities; Toberua and Wakaya offer resort-managed marine options. The precise site, equipment, guide and sea conditions must be confirmed. For scuba, check certification requirements, the operator’s actual departure point and the time needed before flying with your dive professional. Do not touch coral, wildlife or historic objects, and follow local reef access and fishing restrictions.
The wider Koro Sea also appears on specialist dive itineraries, including sites around Wakaya, Makogai and Gau. Some remote sites and stronger-current dives are better suited to experienced divers travelling with a specialist operator or liveaboard. A place on a dive itinerary does not mean a resort excursion can reach it from your island.
Fiji Journal Advice: Choose the operator and actual water activity first, then decide whether to stay on land nearby or join a dedicated voyage. “Excellent diving in Lomaiviti” is too broad to book against.

10. Food, Supplies, Payments and Connectivity
Levuka has ordinary town life and more independent choices than a small resort island, but opening hours and stock cannot be assumed to match a major city. A private island may have one dining arrangement and no shop you can use for essentials. Check the actual property’s meal schedule, refillable drinking water, dietary options, power, mobile coverage, Wi-Fi and accepted payments before leaving Suva or Nadi.
Bring prescribed medication, essential child supplies and specialist equipment rather than expecting to find them at a small-island landing. Carry suitable Fiji-dollar cash for small fees where your host advises, while confirming whether a card surcharge applies. On Ovalau, agree on vehicle fares and timing before a long side trip. If online work or time-sensitive communication is essential, ask how the host handles outages or changes to a sailing.
Your next step: Send one pre-arrival message covering food, allergies, drinking water, payment, power, medication storage if needed, and the contact to use when travel changes.
11. Get There: Complete Every Leg of the Route
Ovalau/Levuka by sea. Begin with your real mainland location, then confirm the current operator’s combination of bus or private vehicle to Natovi Landing, boat to Buresala or Levuka, and onward ground transport if required. The service, vessel, exact destination and check-in point should be printed on the ticket or confirmed directly. Do not use an old timetable or an unverified claim of daily departures as the basis for a non-refundable room. Natovi, Buresala and Levuka are different places; allow time for the road sections.
Leleuvia. The resort describes booking-dependent powerboat transfers from Bau Landing and says it can also arrange a Levuka transfer when required. Its transfer information gives indicative times that the resort confirms at booking. Arrange how you reach Bau Landing from Suva, Nausori or your hotel as part of the same journey.
Toberua. The property describes a vehicle connection from Nausori/Suva Airport to Anitioki Village Jetty, followed by its boat. Its FAQ says the transfer is outside the room rate and requests arrival details in advance. Confirm the pickup if starting from Suva city, rather than treating the airport as the same place.
Wakaya. The resort describes its own aircraft connection from Nadi on its FAQ. Book that through the property, checking where to meet, baggage and the time margin on both sides of an international flight.
More remote islands. Ask the named accommodation, expedition or community host for a dated outbound and return booking. Where a domestic flight or cargo/passenger ship is offered, check the operating day, airstrip or jetty, baggage, pickup and weather contingency with the operator. Do not assume the transfer to one island provides onward transport to the next.
Visitor Advisory – Return connection: Separate road, ferry, domestic flight and international tickets may leave you responsible for a missed connection. A mainland night before an early or inflexible international departure is often the sensible choice.

12. Families, Accessibility, Solo Travel and Health Needs
For a family, check the exact bed layout, meal times, safe play area, swimming conditions, child-sized life jackets, boat boarding method and any age limits. A small island reached by a powerboat may be a joy for one family and awkward for another. The resort’s public description of “family friendly” does not answer whether a child can use a particular reef, vehicle or tender.
For limited mobility, request a description or photographs of the entire route: road vehicle, jetty ramp, boarding steps, moving between vessels if relevant, the landing, walking surface and room bathroom. A historic Levuka property may have stairs; a beach landing may depend on tide and sea state. Obtain written answers from both property and transport provider.
Solo travellers should compare single-room charges, dorm availability if desired, the social atmosphere and the cost of a private transfer. On remote islands, ask who meets you and whether the quoted boat requires a minimum number of guests. Anyone with significant health needs should bring required medication, understand the host’s emergency communication and evacuation arrangements, and check appropriate travel insurance. A small-island resort is not a substitute for access to mainland medical services.
Your next step: Put the least flexible traveller requirement at the top of the island shortlist before deciding on scenery or price.
13. Weather, Marine Conditions and Flexibility
Fiji’s broad cooler/drier and warmer/wetter seasons are useful background, but they do not tell you whether a specific boat will run on a specific day. Wind, swell, rain and a landing exposed to weather can affect a small powerboat differently from a larger ferry. A changed sailing can also affect roads and aircraft. The regional tropical cyclone risk requires additional attention in the warmer part of the year, without making other months immune from rough sea.
Use the Fiji Meteorological Service for current forecasts and marine information, the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji’s notices for relevant advisories, and the operator for its actual go/no-go decision. MSAF has issued specific notices affecting Natovi travel and weather-dependent small-vessel operations; a past notice is not a substitute for a current check.
Ask what happens to the room and paid transfer if an outward or return journey is delayed. Put an important excursion earlier in the stay, keep essential medication in hand luggage where permitted, and protect the international return. Never press a skipper or operator to travel in unsafe conditions.
Fiji Journal Advice: Recheck the operator the day before and the day of departure. A calm photograph of a lagoon cannot tell you what the full crossing will be like.

14. Three Itineraries That Respect the Connections
These are planning patterns, not fixed timetables. Confirm every travel day before paying for the next component.
Two or three nights: Levuka and Ovalau. Base yourself in Levuka. Travel from the Suva side via the operator’s confirmed road-and-ferry connection, settle in, then use a full day for a locally guided town walk and, if time allows, a prearranged Ovalau outing. Return to the mainland with margin before the next flight or overnight elsewhere on Viti Levu.
Three or four nights: one small island. Choose Leleuvia for its Bau Landing boat and smaller accommodation style, or Toberua for the property’s arranged connection via the Nausori side. Spend the middle days on the beach and on suitable guided marine activities. Confirm meals and both transfers as part of the booking, rather than treating the island as a day cruise from Nadi.
Five to seven nights: heritage plus island. Spend two nights in Levuka and several nights at a separately confirmed island stay. Ask the island property to quote any practical Levuka link; otherwise plan a return through the mainland and the correct second landing. A Wakaya stay is its own resort-air itinerary, not an ordinary extension of the Ovalau ferry.
Common mistake | Better decision |
“Lomaiviti” booked as if all islands share one ferry | Write the operator, jetty and final landing beside each night. |
Levuka room booked without the Buresala road leg | Arrange the pickup at the actual ferry arrival point. |
Leleuvia room compared without meals or boat | Add its compulsory meal plan and return transfer. |
Remote island followed by an early international flight | Return to the mainland with a useful buffer. |
Your next step: Put every night, road journey, boat/flight and return connection on one calendar. If a leg has no named operator or pickup, it is not yet an itinerary.
15. Know When Another Fiji Base Works Better
Lomaiviti is a poor fit for a short western Viti Levu resort break if you are unwilling to spend time reaching the Suva side or to accommodate a less frequent connection. Levuka is a history-led town, so it will disappoint someone booking it as an all-inclusive white-sand resort. A remote island named in a diving article is not necessarily open to independent visitors.
For urban culture, stay in Suva and choose only the guided trips and island connections that actually run. For a simple west-coast beach transfer, revisit Denarau, the Mamanucas or Yasawas. For another longer eastern island journey, examine Vanua Levu separately rather than assuming a Lomaiviti stop is on the way.
The reverse is true as well: do not dismiss the whole group because one ferry time is awkward or a private resort is expensive. A Levuka town stay, a dorm or bure on Leleuvia and a private-island package answer different needs and budgets. Change the chosen experience, departure side or number of nights before giving up the region.
Your next step: Ask whether the part you most want—Levuka’s history, an island beach, or a specific reef—is actually present in the booked location.

Final Lomaiviti Booking Checklist
Check these items against the operator and accommodation confirmation:
- ☐ Exact island, town, property and room, with every guest and child age included.
- ☐ Actual mainland starting point and every road, boat or aircraft leg in both directions.
- ☐ Correct jetty or airport, operator, check-in point, baggage and pickup contact.
- ☐ For Ovalau, whether the arrival is Buresala or Levuka and who covers the road journey.
- ☐ For Leleuvia/Toberua, the resort’s confirmed boat and its separate transfer charge.
- ☐ All required meals, drinks, taxes, guides, equipment and community contributions priced.
- ☐ Shore entry, tides, reef conditions and life jackets fit the least confident swimmer.
- ☐ Heritage/village experiences are hosted and access is agreed.
- ☐ Mobility, medication, dietary, power and payment needs are confirmed in writing.
- ☐ Current forecast, service notices, cancellation rules and onward-flight buffer are understood.
Special Decisions: Match the Island to Your Purpose
The table below highlights the key choices that can shape how you experience the Lomaiviti Group Islands and which option may suit your trip best.
Your priority | Start with | Avoid assuming |
Fiji’s first colonial capital and a living historic town | A Levuka base and locally guided walk | UNESCO status covers all of Ovalau or permits entry to every building. |
Small island close to the eastern mainland | Leleuvia with its Bau Landing booking | The room price includes the compulsory meal plan and boat. |
A resort-organised short final boat leg | Toberua from its confirmed Nausori-side pickup | The displayed room includes transfers. |
Exclusive island stay | Wakaya’s direct quote and aircraft terms | A public Ovalau ferry reaches the resort. |
Diving in the wider Koro Sea | A named, qualified operator and exact site itinerary | A reef on a map is reachable from any Lomaiviti hotel. |
Ovalau beyond Levuka | A host-arranged guide, vehicle and permission | Every village and viewpoint is an open stop. |
Limited mobility or young children | The whole boarding chain and actual room | An island listing’s accessibility or family tag solves the last mile. |
Fixed early flight | A prior-night mainland stay | A separate marine ticket protects the connection. |
Frequently Asked Questions About Lomaiviti
These answers cover the decisions most likely to change your route; check the live operator and property terms for your travel dates.
Where are the Lomaiviti Islands?
They lie east of Viti Levu around the Koro Sea. Ovalau and Levuka are the usual heritage focus, while small islands closer to the eastern mainland and more remote islands require distinct transfers.
Is Levuka on Ovalau?
Yes. Levuka is a town on Ovalau’s eastern coast. The UNESCO World Heritage property is the Levuka Historical Port Town, a defined townscape rather than all of Ovalau or Lomaiviti.
Why is Levuka famous?
It was Fiji’s first colonial capital after cession in 1874. Its surviving port-town layout and the interaction between colonial structures and indigenous settlement are central to UNESCO’s listing. Suva became the capital in 1882.
How do I reach Levuka from Suva?
Confirm a current road and ferry booking from the Suva side via Natovi, with arrival at Buresala or Levuka according to the service. Arrange the additional ground transfer if you land at Buresala. Do not copy an old departure time into a new booking.
Is Buresala the same as Levuka?
No. Buresala is a landing on Ovalau, while Levuka is a town elsewhere on the island. Arrange how you will travel between them before buying a Buresala ticket.
Can I visit Levuka in one day from Nadi?
The multiple road and sea legs usually make that an unsatisfying plan. An Ovalau night or two from a Suva-side base is more realistic. A specifically organised day visit may be possible only when its timings have been confirmed.
How do I get to Leleuvia?
Its resort arranges booking-dependent boats from Bau Landing. Confirm the actual departure and return, the road trip to the landing, transfer charges and meal plan with the property. It also advertises Levuka transfers subject to arrangements.
Does Leleuvia offer a day trip?
The resort advertises a day-visit product. Confirm that it is operating on your date, the boat, landing, included food and time ashore; do not assume any room or transfer booking provides day-visitor access.
How do I reach Toberua?
The resort describes a vehicle pickup near Nausori/Suva Airport and a boat from Anitioki Village Jetty. Provide arrival information to the resort and confirm the transfer fee and actual pickup, particularly if starting in Suva city.
Can I take a regular ferry to Wakaya?
Do not plan on that. Wakaya’s resort describes its own aircraft connection from Nadi. Request the complete transfer and package terms directly from the property.
Are Koro, Gau and Makogai easy to island-hop between?
Do not assume so. Access depends on the particular operator, community or specialist trip, and may not match independent tourist accommodation. Book both outward and return legs before building a multi-island plan.
Can I visit Bau without arranging access?
Treat it as a living, culturally significant island, not an open beach landing. Visit only through an appropriate invitation or hosted arrangement and follow the host’s instructions.
Are Lomaiviti beaches suitable for children?
Some selected stays may be, but suitability depends on the particular beach at different tides, boat boarding, shade, room and supervision. Ask the property-specific questions before booking.
Are meals included on small islands?
They vary. Leleuvia currently says its meal plan is compulsory; Toberua offers rates and packages whose details need matching; Wakaya says meals and snacks are included in its current FAQ. Check your exact reservation and any drinks or transfer exclusions.
What is the best season for Lomaiviti?
There is no month that guarantees a calm crossing or clear reef. Use broad seasonal expectations to choose a travel period, then current marine forecasts and operator advice for the actual journey. Leave flexibility around weather-dependent activities and connections.
Can I return to Nadi on the day of an international flight?
It may be possible for a specific confirmed itinerary, but several separately booked legs create risk. Return to the mainland the preceding day when the flight is early or hard to replace.
The Simplest Lomaiviti Decision
Choose Levuka/Ovalau if the point is history and time in a working Fijian town. Choose Leleuvia or Toberua if the point is a small-island stay and the property can confirm every transfer. Choose a remote island or specialist voyage only when a host or operator has booked the whole route. In every case, price the room, food and return journey together, then protect your flight home.
Fiji Journal Advice: Lomaiviti rewards curiosity and a little patience. Levuka makes Fiji’s history visible in streets still used by its residents. Close offshore islands offer a slower beach day reached by a deliberate boat connection, while farther islands require a different scale of planning. Let the real host, landing and journey shape the trip, and the group becomes far more meaningful than a collection of names on a map.
Compare Fiji’s main destination areas and choose where to stay, what each region offers and how the different parts of Fiji fit together.
