Mantaray Island Resort
Overview: Mantaray Island Resort in Fiji offers two exciting types of spearfishing experiences: reef (green water) spearing and blue water spearing.
Green Water Spear Fishing: Just 5-20 minutes away from the resort, the Yasawas provide stunning reefs full of various species, including coral trout, mangrove jack, job fish, GTs, Spanish mackerel, and crayfish. This area is perfect for beginners to learn the art of spearfishing or for more experienced spearos to explore deeper reefs.
Blue Water Spear Fishing: For those seeking a greater challenge, blue water spearfishing trips take you to the edge of the shelf, where the reef drops to depths of up to 2000 meters. This more advanced spearfishing experience allows anglers to hunt larger fish like wahoo, yellowfin tuna, dogtooth tuna, and mahi mahi. Located only 20-30 minutes from Mantaray Island Resort, the uncharted blue waters offer the opportunity to catch the fish of a lifetime.
Octopus Resort
Overview: At Octopus Resort, several nights a week, guests can join in on sunset hand-line fishing trips. The waters surrounding the resort are abundant with marine life, making it a perfect fishing experience for both beginners and seasoned anglers. Any fish caught during these trips are used for lunch the following day. Afterward, guests can relax and share their fishing stories at the bar, perhaps even enjoying a movie under the stars near the water’s edge.
Octopus Resort offers some of the best fishing charters available. On these excursions, guests can expect to catch a variety of fish species, such as Yellowfin Tuna, Walu, Giant Trevally, Coral Trout, and many more. Whether you are an experienced angler or a beginner, there’s a thrilling fishy tale waiting to unfold. The resort offers half- and full-day fishing trips aboard their boats, with experienced local skippers who know the waters intimately. Guests are encouraged to bring a camera to capture their catches, while the resort provides a cool box filled with snacks and drinks.
Turtle Island Resort
Overview: At Turtle Island Resort, handline fishing is a simple yet rewarding activity that offers a true taste of Fijian culture. Guests drop a baited line into the water and, with the slightest nibble, reel in their catch. This activity is a fun social experience, with the option to catch and release or enjoy a grilled fish luncheon. For reef fishing, the resort provides a sturdy 25.5′ runabout boat equipped with twin outboard engines, perfect for exploring the reefs around Turtle Island and neighboring islands.
Fishing excursions last 4-6 hours, depending on weather, and target species include yellowfin tuna, trevally, Spanish mackerel, barracuda, skipjack tuna, and rainbow runner. The resort’s chefs are delighted to prepare freshly caught fish as sashimi for lunch or as part of an exquisite dinner. For anglers targeting larger fish such as GTs or Dogtooth Tuna, the calmer summer months (January to April) are the ideal time to visit. The Black Marlin season runs from August to October and again from February to March, while Striped Marlin is best caught in cooler months, between August and September. Blue Marlin, however, can be caught year-round, with larger fish typically found during summer months.
