Nadi International Airport Guide: 10 Essential Checks for 2026

1. Confirm your entry documents before you land

Before arrival, make sure the passport and entry documents for your own circumstances are ready. Fiji Revenue & Customs Service states that each arriving traveller must complete both sides of the Fiji Passenger Arrival Card and present the completed card, passport and any supporting documents requested at immigration. Supporting documents can include visa approvals, airline tickets or authority letters where applicable.

Do not use an old blog post as your visa checklist. Fiji Immigration controls visa, visitor-permit and transit requirements, and those rules should be checked again before travel.

• Keep your passport and arrival documents in cabin baggage.
• Complete the Passenger Arrival Card clearly and accurately.
• Carry any visa approval or other supporting evidence that applies to you.
• Save your accommodation address and onward-travel details somewhere you can access offline.

YOUR NEXT STEP: Before departure, recheck your own passport, visa or transit requirements on the Fiji Immigration website and keep the relevant documents together in your cabin baggage.

2. Understand the arrival sequence

The normal international arrival flow is simple: immigration first, then baggage collection, followed by Customs and Biosecurity clearance. After those controls are complete, you enter the public Arrivals Hall.

Queues vary with the number of flights arriving, baggage delivery and whether goods need to be declared. Build this uncertainty into any separately booked connection after landing.

• Immigration: present your passport, arrival card and any requested supporting documents.
• Baggage collection: collect all checked luggage.
• Customs and Biosecurity: make the required declarations and follow any inspection instructions.
• Arrivals Hall: continue to your taxi, transfer, bus, rental car or onward connection.

YOUR NEXT STEP: Treat your scheduled landing time as the start of the airport process, not as the time you will be ready to board a ferry, domestic flight or transfer vehicle.

3. Declare Customs and Biosecurity items correctly

Fiji’s border declarations are not a formality. FRCS requires travellers to declare prohibited or restricted goods, biosecurity-risk goods and currency of FJ$10,000 or more, or the foreign-currency equivalent, when the declaration requirement applies. (Fiji Packing Guide)

Biosecurity-risk categories can include food, animal products, plants, seeds, flowers, wood, soil and used outdoor equipment. Used hiking shoes, camping equipment and similar items matter because they may carry soil or biological material. If you are uncertain about an item, declare it and let the border officer decide.

• Check food and natural products before packing.
• Clean soil and plant material from walking shoes and outdoor equipment.
• Do not assume packaged or commercially produced food is automatically exempt.
• Declare reportable currency and negotiable instruments when required.
• Follow the current FRCS and Biosecurity instructions rather than an old prohibited-items list.

YOUR NEXT STEP: Check the current FRCS arriving-in-Fiji guidance immediately before travel and declare rather than guess.

4. Collect baggage and deal with problems before leaving

After immigration, collect your checked baggage before proceeding through the final border-control area. If a bag does not arrive or is damaged, report the issue before you leave the airport and keep the baggage receipt and claim reference.

Fiji Airports directs lost or mishandled baggage enquiries to Air Terminal Services. Your operating airline may also have its own reporting procedure, so follow the instructions provided at the airport.

• Keep baggage receipts until every checked item has been collected.
• Photograph unusual or valuable luggage before travel so it is easier to describe.
• Report a missing bag before leaving the terminal.
• Keep essential medicine, travel documents and one change of clothes in cabin baggage.

YOUR NEXT STEP: Save your airline booking and baggage details offline so you can access them even if your phone has no data on arrival.

5. Choose the right transport from Nadi Airport

Nadi Airport has several onward transport options. Fiji Airports lists airport taxis, rental cars, public buses and transfer services, while current visitor guidance also identifies hotel shuttles and private or shared transfers.

The best option depends on your destination, luggage, arrival time and whether you must meet another service. A short Nadi or Denarau journey is very different from a late-night Coral Coast transfer or a connection to a marina.

YOUR NEXT STEP: Decide your airport-to-accommodation transport before flying if the journey is long, the arrival is late or another booked connection depends on it.

6. Plan island and domestic connections conservatively

Many Fiji holidays do not end at the airport. Travellers may continue by road to Denarau or the Coral Coast, connect to a domestic flight, or travel onward by ferry, water taxi, seaplane or resort boat.

Do not build a tight connection around the aircraft’s scheduled arrival time. Immigration, baggage, Customs and Biosecurity take time, and separately operated services may not wait for a delayed international flight. Domestic baggage allowances can also differ from long-haul allowances.

• Confirm the actual check-in deadline for the next service.
• Check whether the international and domestic tickets are on one itinerary or separate bookings.
• Verify domestic baggage limits with the operating airline.
• Check missed-connection and cancellation rules for ferries, boats and transfers.
• Allow a realistic buffer before any non-refundable onward service.

YOUR NEXT STEP: Write down the complete chain from aircraft arrival to your first night’s accommodation and test every connection before paying for it.

7. Use airport money, SIM and Wi-Fi services selectively

Current airport visitor information lists ATMs and currency exchange in the terminal, local mobile-service outlets in Arrivals and airport Wi-Fi. These services can be useful immediately after a long flight, but you do not need to complete every travel task before leaving the airport.

Prioritise what the next stage of the journey actually requires: enough payment access for the transfer, a way to contact the accommodation or operator, and any local data needed for navigation or booking messages

• Have access to Fijian dollars if the first service you plan to use requires cash.
• Keep your passport available if purchasing or registering a local SIM.
• Save transfer and accommodation contacts offline.
• Do not exchange or withdraw more cash than your itinerary requires simply because you are at the airport.

YOUR NEXT STEP: Confirm how you will pay for the first transfer and how you will contact the operator if your flight is delayed.

8. Treat transit rules separately from ordinary entry

A transit through Nadi is not automatically the same as entering Fiji for a holiday. Fiji Immigration publishes separate Visit/Transit guidance and should be treated as the controlling source for visa and permit requirements.

Current visitor-facing Tourism Fiji material describes short airside connections and stopovers, but its wording does not fully match every Immigration statement. Because nationality and connection circumstances matter, Fiji Journal should not publish a blanket transit-visa promise. Use the current Fiji Immigration rule for your passport before travel.

• Check whether you remain airside or must enter Fiji.
• Confirm whether checked baggage is transferred through or must be collected.
• Check the onward ticket and final-destination entry requirements.
• Verify any transit visa or permit requirement directly with Fiji Immigration.

YOUR NEXT STEP: If Nadi is only a connection, check Fiji Immigration’s current transit requirements for your nationality and itinerary before you depart.

9. Prepare properly for departure

There is no single check-in cutoff that safely applies to every airline and every Nadi departure. Use the current instructions issued by the operating airline for your flight.

Allow time for travel to the airport, rental-car return if applicable, check-in or bag drop, security and outbound formalities. A last-minute arrival at the terminal creates unnecessary risk, especially during busy international departure periods.

• Check flight status before leaving your accommodation.
• Confirm the airline’s current check-in and bag-drop times.
• Review baggage allowance and oversized-item arrangements.
• Keep passport and destination-entry documents accessible.
• If returning a rental car, allow time for fuel, inspection and handover.

YOUR NEXT STEP: Use the airline’s current departure instructions, then work backwards to decide when you need to leave your accommodation.

10. Know which airport facilities matter to your journey

Fiji Airports lists the major passenger-service categories at Nadi, including shopping and dining, flight information, transit facilities, luggage storage, lounge facilities, parking, internet access, Customs, Immigration and Biosecurity information.

Availability, prices, eligibility and opening hours can change. Use these facilities as supporting services rather than making the trip depend on an old published operating time.

• Passenger information and flight information
• Luggage storage
• Internet access
• Shopping and dining
• Airport lounge facilities
• Ground transport and rental-car services
• Customs, Immigration and Biosecurity support

YOUR NEXT STEP: If you need a specific facility such as luggage storage, lounge access or an accessible vehicle, confirm the current details before the day of travel.
