Generator Donation To Power Frank Hilton Organization

In a collaborative effort, FNPF-owned IHG Fiji Hotels, including InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, and Holiday Inn Suva, has joined forces with Filter Supplies Pte Ltd to donate 30kVa Diesel Three-Phase Generator to the Frank Hilton Organization in Suva, Fiji.

Frank Hilton Organization is a charitable trust dedicated to addressing the needs of children with disabilities and their families in Fiji, who operate under an early childhood development mandate. The organisation provides essential early detection and intervention services for children with disabilities and developmental delays.

The donation of the Generator, valued at over FJ$20,000, aims to support the Frank Hilton Organization in continuing its mission during power outages, ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of essential education, rehabilitation, and medical assistance services to children in need.

Lachlan Walker, Portfolio General Manager – IHG Hotels & Resorts, FNPF Owned Hotels, expressed his gratitude to Sarvesh Chetty, Director for Filter Supplies Pte Ltd, for collaborating on this impactful initiative.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to Filter Supplies Pte Ltd for their partnership in making a significant difference to the Frank Hilton Organization and the children they look after. This collaboration aligns with IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow initiatives, which commits to improving the lives of 30 million people in communities around the world,” commented Lachlan Walker, Portfolio General Manager – IHG Hotels & Resorts, FNPF Owned Hotels. “We would also like to express our gratitude to our owners, the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF), for their continued support in initiatives that uplift communities and create lasting positive change.”

This donation reflects FNPF-owned IHG Fiji Hotels’ dedication to positively impacting the communities in which it operates. As part of IHG’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility, the international hospitality brand is passionate about supporting organizations like the Frank Hilton Organization, ensuring that important services for children continue despite ongoing challenges with access to energy.

“As the only early detection and intervention service provider in Fiji, Frank Hilton Organization relies heavily on the support and donations of corporates and individuals to bridge the funding deficit and maintain continuity of our services to over 1000 children with disabilities and their families. The generator donated by IHG was an immediate priority identified by the FHO team. It will enable us to maintain the quality of care to the residents of the Hilton Home during power outages, especially during the cyclone season,” commented Sureni Perera, Chief Executive Officer of Frank Hilton Organization.

“The care component, including special blended meals, ensuring health, hygiene, and infection prevention, functions of nebulisers, hoists, laundry, etc., require power. During power outages, there is a huge disruption to services, requiring caregivers to manually manage these functions. This is a significant strain on the caregivers and an additional cost to management for additional labour required. The generator will mitigate this issue and is a timely Christmas gift to us. We are immensely thankful to the IHG Hotels & Resorts Team, who have been very thoughtful and accommodating during the process, understanding our needs, and most of all, considering the needs of the children under our care.”

Stack of Compostable Single-Use Cups on the beach in Fiji

Hospitality Brand Leads the Way in Environmental and Social Responsibility By Introducing Compostable Single-Use Cups

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel and Holiday Inn Suva are working with Fijian-owned manufacturers Portion Pak and Rise Beyond the Reef to show their social and environmental commitment.

The compostable single-use cups are adorned with Fijian-inspired design by Rise Beyond the Reef, a local non-profit organisation. 26th September 2023 (Natadola, Fiji): As part of IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow initiative, the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel and Holiday Inn Suva proudly announce. the introduction of compostable single-use water and coffee cups, reaffirming its commitment to both the environment and the local community. Partnering with Fijian-owned manufacturers Portion Pak and Rise Beyond the Reef, this move sets a remarkable precedent for the hospitality industry.

The newly unveiled single-use water and coffee cups, adorned with captivating Fijian-inspired designs by Rise Beyond the Reef, a local non-profit organisation, underscore the resort’s dedication to blending sustainability with cultural appreciation.

This collaboration not only promotes environmental protection but also empowers local artists and charitable initiatives. “At IHG Hotels & Resorts in Fiji, we believe in making a positive impact. Our transition to compostable single-use water and coffee cups is not just a change in practice but a statement of our dedication to preserving the natural beauty of Fiji and supporting its communities. This initiative aligns with our broader sustainability goals and reflects our ethos of responsible luxury.” commented Lachlan Walker, Portfolio General Manager – IHG Hotels & Resorts, FNPF Owned Hotels.

Recognising the urgency of addressing tourism-generated waste, Portion Pak, an environmental pioneer with over 23 years of experience in manufacturing eco-friendly products, has taken its commitment a step further. These innovative certified home compostable cups replace conventional cups’ laminated plastic lining with a water-based ‘ink’ technology. As a result, these cups compost alongside organic waste, presenting a compelling solution to the pervasive issue of single-use plastics in the hospitality sector.

Colleague at Holiday Inn Suva, with cups of coffee in compostable cups. Estimates suggest that 5-10 million* takeaway cups are imported and used in Fiji annually, contributing to the mounting landfill and environmental degradation. Portion Pak’s revolutionary water and coffee cups and lids offer a game-changing alternative, marking the first instance where such items can be effectively composted in Fiji. Larger establishments like resorts stand to eliminate tens of thousands of single-use cups and lids virtually overnight, fostering a cleaner and greener environment.

Contrary to existing claims of compostable and biodegradable products, often mere greenwashing attempts, Portion Pak’s technology stands out as an authentic solution. The company’s partnership with BioPak, an industry leader in environmentally friendly food packaging, has enabled Fiji to be among the pioneering nations to receive this transformative innovation. However, the story doesn’t end with environmental benefits. Portion Pak has gone a step further by collaborating with Fiji’s very own Rise Beyond the Reef charitable organisation. Not only do these cups showcase vibrant local designs, but 5% of every cup’s value goes directly to supporting Rise Beyond the Reef’s school-based programs, demonstrating a commitment to environmental and social upliftment.

The resort’s swift replacement of over 50,000 plastic cups at drink stations with 6oz Rise Beyond the Reef cups has already kickstarted the journey towards a more sustainable future. Be sure to check them out on your next stay and tag us on @interconfiji @holidayinnsuva @grandpacificfiji. These cups will be thoughtfully composted on-site, enriching the resort grounds and leaving 50,000 fewer plastic cups in Fiji’s pristine landscapes. IHG Fiji’s pioneering step towards sustainability signifies a harmonious blend of innovation, culture, and environmental consciousness. With this move, the resort strengthens its position as an industry leader and ambassador of Fiji’s natural resources.

Intercontinental Fiji Invests Into Meeting & Event Spaces And Pure Air Technology.

Intercontinental Fiji Invests Into Meeting & Event Spaces And Pure Air Technology

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, located at award-winning Natadola Bay is set to lead the way for Fiji’s events and conferencing experience with timely investments made into audio and visual services, air conditioning, air filtration and an electrostatic spraying unit for a safer, cleaner, and hygienic experience for events and conference delegates.

Encore Events Technologies, the in-house service provider for audio and visual services has just completed a quarter-million-dollar upgrade that is set to positively impact the overall event experience at Natadola Bay. Part of the upgrades includes new wider 4K projectors and drop-down screens in its meeting rooms that enable a much larger viewing surface, upgraded 75-inch TV screens, digital concierge systems for meeting facilitators and event planners as well as rewiring of event spaces for better audio experience. Together with this, state of an art Video over IP (VoIP) system has been installed to distribute vision throughout the space and installed wireless access points allow vision routing through handheld smart devices. This is further complemented by the twenty-four ceiling speakers enabling even distribution of premium surround sound across the space. A WiFi-controlled audio mixer has also been added that allows for wireless access to each of the room’s audio controls. These upgrades have also allowed Natadola Bay to be a more suitable venue of choice for hybrid events that need digital connection with multiple venues in other parts of the World at any one given time. Guests are seamlessly able to remotely attend meetings, and share screens and content with ease supported by high-speed WiFi.

With serious concerns, in the wake of COVID, for delegates’ health and well-being at events, the Resort has further invested in ActivePure Technology which enhances air filtration in the Resort’s pillarless and freestanding Ballroom. ActivePure’s Proactive Pathogen Defense™ creates oxidizing molecules that significantly reduce viruses, bacteria, odours, and volatile organic compounds – both on surfaces and in the air. The biodefense air purification system has been used in NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) spaceships and space stations for several years and has received the prestigious award of being inducted into the Space Hall of Fame in 2017 and is one of only 75 technologies to receive such an honour in 30 years.

Ensuring that enabling the personal well-being of guests and colleagues is key, the property has also implemented using hospital-grade disinfectants and electrostatic technology. The Peroxide Multi Surface Cleaner and Disinfectant is Australia Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) listed which has been proven to kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Electrostatic spray (ESS) is electrically charged, allowing the appropriate sanitisers and disinfectants to wrap around and evenly coat all types of surfaces for a complete clean. As the chemical exits the electrostatic sprayer, it is given a positive electrical charge. The droplets then become attracted to all negative surfaces, covering the visible area, underside, and backside, with the sanitizing agent.  Read More…
