The moment your feet hit the sand you will relax and be on Fiji Time! Qamea Island, just north of the garden island of Taveuni, is home to Maqai Beach Eco Surf Resort (Pronounced ‘Mungai’).
You will be warmly hosted by The Maqai Team who will do their very best to make sure your holiday is a special and memorable one. Come and embrace the ‘Real Fijian Culture’ that the northern islands provide. Your guest experience will be infused with the cultural, social, and environmental features of the local area. This intimate five-hectare Fiji surf resort is nestled amongst a backdrop of rain forest, a stretch of private white sandy beach fringed with coconut palms, magnificent coral reefs, and crystal blue warm water.Holiday on a remote private Fijian Island! Maqai Eco Resort is situated on the idyllic island of Qamea – 6 km north of Taveuni Island, accommodation for couples, independent travelers and families. All bures are located just a few steps above the water and come equipped with all the little comforts of home. Our beachfront accommodation features mosquito nets, fans, lighting, private veranda with seating, en-suite bathroom, comfortable beds and quality bed linens.
The sandbar is the heart of Maqai Beach Eco Resort with a communal area for dining, mingling, and relaxing. It’s here you will also find a table tennis table, a café serving snack foods, and a licensed bar. Sit back and relax, there’s no cooking to do here – a full meal plan is required when staying at our Qamea resort and includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You’ll enjoy a range of local and international cuisine. Fijian delicacies include lovo and kokoda. Most dietary requirements can be catered for – just let us know at your time of booking.
Complimentary activities at Maqai include snorkeling on the reef outside the resort, kayaking, and volleyball. For those less active you may like to go on a jungle walk or play table tennis and chess. In the evening we have kava nights, singing and dancing.
Every afternoon volleyball takes place around 4 pm. Join the locals on the court for fun times and lots of laughter. Recommended is the guided jungle walk which operates daily and is a hike above the resort, trekking through tropical rainforest and seeing amazing 360 degree vistas. Your guide will teach you all about the different plants and their medicinal properties. The ongoing promotion and facilitation of sustainable principles and practices for both guests and staff alike are integral to the ongoing success of Maqai Eco Resort. Maqai provides an island getaway in a beautiful pristine environment with cultural interaction with the local Fijian people. Environmental management strategies are implemented across the board, from water and waste-water management to renewable energy, the principles of reducing, recycling, and re-using, utilizing local building materials, organic fruit and vegetables, coral reef protection, and ongoing support and training to up-skill staff in sustainable business practices.
Rumors of surf breaks on the southern side of Qamea Island were confirmed in 2006 when one of Maqai’s owners/directors had a chance to survey the outer islands of Laucala in a helicopter – the quality of the breaks was confirmed with a flyover (including what is arguably the best right-hander in Fiji), and the rest is history! An amazing surfing experience is offered directly out front of Maqai Beach (pronounced as “Munguy”). Whether you’re a weekend surfer, beginner, or advanced level, Maqui has waves for you in Fiji!
The advantage of Maqai Resorts’ location is that you can see the main breaks anywhere from the resort; kick back in the Sandbar or on the deck of your bure and choose the best time of the day to hit the waves – when the weather is changeable, you can score the best session of the day. Staying at Maqai Resort you can’t stay any closer to the breaks, they are directly 1500m offshore – no long boat rides to cut into your surf time – a 10-minute boat ride will have you surfing Maqai or Kavas.Sorry, no records were found.
