Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji supports Spa Certification for eight women
In a remarkable demonstration of dedication and skill, eight talented women have successfully completed their Level 3 Certificate in Massage Therapy Spa Training Program at Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji. This achievement marks a significant step forward in their careers and sets a new standard for excellence in the spa and wellness industry.
The comprehensive training program, offered by the resort in partnership with South Pacific Academy of Beauty Therapy, covered a wide range of topics essential for delivering exceptional spa experiences.
The Certificate earned by these women not only symbolizes their successful completion of the program but also highlights their readiness to contribute positively to the realm of wellness and hospitality. These women were also offered contracts for one year with the resort.
Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji General Manager Francis Lee saluted the women for their accomplishment.
“We congratulate these eight women on their outstanding achievement,” says Mr. Lee.
“Their dedication and hard work throughout the training process has truly paid off. We have full confidence that they will excel in their careers, embodying the high standards of service and professionalism that Shangri-La is renowned for.”

Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji supports Fiji Cancer Society
Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji, has showcased its deep-rooted commitment to the community by supporting Fiji Cancer Society’s Biggest Morning Tea event that was hosted at the resort. This benevolent gesture reflects the resort’s dedication to supporting essential healthcare initiatives and enhancing the well-being of the local population.
In a heartfelt ceremony held at the resort, Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji’s General Manager Mr. Francis Lee proudly handed over a generous donation to the Fiji Cancer Society. The donation symbolizes the resort’s unwavering belief in contributing to causes that make a meaningful impact on the lives of Fijian citizens.
The Fiji Cancer Society, renowned for its tireless efforts in raising awareness about cancer prevention and providing critical support to cancer patients and their families, expressed profound gratitude for the resort’s contribution.
Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji General Manager Francis Lee said; “We are humbled and honored to stand alongside the Fiji Cancer Society in their mission to combat cancer and provide support to those affected.”

Fiji Cancer Society Medical Staff and Breast Cancer Survivor Florence thanked the resort for it’s timely donation.
“Funds from Fiji’s Biggest Morning Teas across the country are combined and put to work funding our patient support services, lifesaving prevention and awareness programs, advocacy campaigns for improved cancer services and outcomes for all Fijians and survivorship programs,” she said.
She also shared her journey with cancer with staff members at the resort. The occasion provided an opportunity, for FCS to encourage both men and women that early diagnosis improves cancer outcomes by providing care at the earliest possible stage.

Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji Appoints New Italian Chef
Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji is excited to announce the appointment of Mr. Manuel Fernando Agostino as the new Italian Chef for the resort’s renowned Golden Cowrie Coastal Italian Restaurant. Originally from Italy, Mr. Manuel has vast experience in fine dining restaurants and luxury hotels and has worked in some prominent hotels and restaurants such as Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, Nobu Restaurant, La Môme Cannes, Cecconi’s Mayfair in London, and Tschuggen Grand Hotel in Switzerland to name a few.
“I am so fortunate to have been appointed to this position and I am ready to take on the challenge.” Mr.Manuel said.
Mr. Manuel adds this would be his first resort to work for in the Pacific and is ready to showcase Italian cuisine to Shangri-La’s guests from around the world.
While Mr. Manuel has a fair understanding of the day-to-day operations of a hotel, he adds that he was looking forward to working with the culinary team at the resort.
“I would ensure service is top notch and that demands within the restaurants are met.”
Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji’s Executive Chef Arnold Alphonsus said, “It is great to have a good team player like Mr. Manuel in the team and the resort is looking forward to seeing his talents on display.”
Mr. Arnold said Mr. Manuel was ready to deliver and provide a “taste of Italy” at the Golden Cowrie Coastal Italian Restaurant.

Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji Appoints Executive Chef
Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji is excited to announce the appointment of Mr.Arnold Alphonsus as Executive Chef for the prominent Fijian resort located on the Coral Coast in Sigatoka.
Mr. Alphonsus has been with the Shangri-La Group for 22 years and previously worked in other Shangri-La properties including Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa, Singapore, Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort & Spain Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
Mr. Alphonsus joined Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji as an Executive Sous Chef in 2014 and since then, has regarded Yanuca Island as his home away from home.
Originally from Malaysia, Mr. Alphonsus’s passion in his work has seen him reach greater heights in his career. “I am so fortunate to have been appointed in this position and I am ready to take on the new challenge.” Mr. Alphonsus said.
Last year, Mr. Alphonsus led a team of young and talented chefs to the FMF Salon Culinaire 2022 competition where they won both silver and bronze medals in most of the categories. Mr. Alphonsus highlighted that he was impressed with his team and the talent they had.
“I can proudly say that they are doing an amazing job and I am so happy and proud to have a young and brilliant team.” “Despite the short notice, the team was able to deliver, and they delivered beyond expectations.”
Mr. Alphonsus adds that competitions such as the FMF Salon Culinaire 2022 are a great platform for young local talent to showcase their skills and talents.
Mr. Alphonsus has brought together an international and local culinary team who created more than half-a-dozen dedicated and casual restaurants and bars across the resort, each with its own unique experiences, flavours and themes.
More than 75 per cent of all meat and fresh produce, as well as all seafood, served at the resort is sourced locally. Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji’s General Manager; Francis Lee said, “Arnold’s wealth of experience and culinary understanding will be of great benefit to the resort.”
