Challenge City, a transformative project by the Challenge Group of Companies, is set to revitalize the historical Cathay Hotel site in Lautoka, turning it into a modern mixed-use retail and hospitality complex featuring an 80-room four-star hotel.
Challenge City Lautoka: Transforming Lautoka’s Historic Site
Responding to the rising demand for quality accommodations and retail spaces in Lautoka, Challenge City aims to be a sustainable development, incorporating approximately 4000 sq.m of photovoltaic cells and a smart central building management system for efficient energy use. The project, with a strong focus on environmental sustainability, is anticipated to become one of Fiji’s most eco-friendly mixed-use retail developments.
Managed by Suresh Patel, the managing director of the Challenge Group, the development includes a state-of-the-art 80-room hotel offering picturesque views of the city and seafront. The facility will prioritize conferencing and events, featuring a 300-person capacity function center overlooking Churchill Park. The company has initiated discussions with major Fijian retailers for leasing spaces, and further opportunities for local retailers and restaurateurs will be advertised in local papers. Challenge City Lautoka, designed by the award-winning tropicX design studio, is part of the Challenge Group’s commitment to landmark hospitality and retail projects across Fiji, with completion expected in the second quarter of 2025.
