In Depth
Fiji Airways has confirmed that, effective 19 January 2026, updated safety measures will apply to the carriage and use of portable power banks on all Fiji Airways and Fiji Link flights. The changes are designed to enhance onboard safety while maintaining a comfortable and reliable travel experience for all passengers.
Under the revised measures, the use of portable power banks will no longer be permitted onboard aircraft, and power banks will be strictly prohibited in checked luggage. Passengers may continue to carry power banks in their cabin baggage; however, they must be stored in the seat pocket rather than in overhead compartments to ensure they remain easily accessible.
These measures follow a comprehensive review of operational protocols relating to portable electronic accessories and are aligned with the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations and global aviation best practices.
Safety remains Fiji Airways’ highest priority, and the updated requirements form part of the airline’s broader safety and operational framework. Guests are encouraged to visit the Fiji Airways website for a full list of restricted items and will be informed of these changes prior to travel, at check-in, and within airport terminals from 19 January 2026.
