In Depth
Fiji Airways has released the latest instalment of its Meet the Makers series, celebrating local artisans whose work enhances the airline’s inflight experience. This edition features Sigavou Studios, a family-run art studio led by Maria Rova, whose distinctive designs inspired by Fiji’s culture and natural beauty are now showcased on Fiji Airways’ onboard paper cups.
Maria and her team of young artists draw on traditional masi-making practices, using hand-crafted barkcloth made by family members on the island of Vatulele as their canvas, combined with vibrant contemporary pigments. The resulting designs are deeply personal, reflecting a strong connection to home and a love for Fiji’s landscapes, traditions, and way of life. Maria describes the collaboration as a milestone for the studio, which began at her family’s kitchen table and has now taken its art across the world.
Fiji Airways Chief Customer Officer Akuila Batiweti said the partnership highlights the airline’s commitment to showcasing local talent, noting that every onboard detail tells a story. Through Meet the Makers, Fiji Airways continues to celebrate the people whose creativity and care help deliver an inflight experience that is authentically Fijian.
