Old World sparrows are small, plump birds with short tails and powerful beaks. Usually brown or grey, they are often seen in urban areas, neighbourhoods and farms, where they gather in busy, vocal flocks. They mainly eat seeds, but also feed on small insects. Males have black bibs, rufous napes and patterned wings, while females are plain brown with a lighter eyebrow.
