On Thursday 14 March 2024, the Chairperson of the Fiji Museum Board of Trustees, Ms Kate Vusoniwailala, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Grand Pacific Hotel Suva (GPH).
GPH Partners with Fiji Museum to Support Cultural Heritage
A first for Fiji’s national museum, this MOU marks an exciting and meaningful partnership between two organisations who are committed to providing greater community engagement and accessibility, creating collaborative experiences including guest/visitor experiences through curated packages for museum visits and assisting with exhibition delivery and opening events. Additionally, the Fiji Museum and the GPH are looking forward to promoting awareness of cultural heritage practices, objects and systems through mutually beneficial activities and publications.
Chairperson Vusoniwailala stated “We are very appreciative of the generous support we are receiving from the Grand Pacific Hotel Suva and their management team in the form of this MOU. It illustrates their commitment towards our community and the heritage and arts sector. This kind of private public sector partnership is an excellent illustration of corporate responsibility and commitment to stakeholders.”
The Fiji Museum works to preserve the cultural heritage of both Fiji’s Indigenous inhabitants and the other communities that have settled here over the past 200 years. As Fiji’s national museum, it exists to collect, care for and share the 10,000+ objects, textile, flatwork, archaeology, natural history and archival/photographs in its collection, and through them, tell a story about Fiji’s history. It was established in 1904 with the specific purpose of creating a national cultural facility to both protect and preserve Fiji’s cultural heritage as well as create a space for the public to engage with and appreciate the nation’s rich and diverse heritage.
