This year’s standout achievers include: • Hansini Gounder from InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, who earned first place in the Barista Competition for the third time, following her wins in 2017 and 2018. This demonstrates Hansini’s exceptional expertise and dedication to the art of coffee making. • Theodore Reyes, also from InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, won the Bartender Competition, impressing judges with his inventive use of local ingredients in his cocktail creations. • Anesh Anushal Goundar from InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, placed as Runner-Up in the Chef Competition, showcasing his culinary skills with dishes inspired by Fijian flavours. • Brandon Solvalu from Grand Pacific Hotel and Mereoni Ligadua and Malakai Kauyaca from Holiday Inn Suva, who represented FNPF-owned IHG Hotels & Resorts with enthusiasm and professionalism, highlighting the strength of food & beverage talent across the portfolio of hotels in Fiji.
“Our team’s exceptional achievements at HOTEC 2024 reflect IHG’s commitment to developing talent and supporting the growth of our local hospitality industry,” commented Lachlan Walker, Portfolio General Manager – IHG Hotels & Resorts, FNPF-Owned Hotels. “We are passionate about attracting and developing Fijian talent and helping them achieve their career dreams. Congratulations to Hansini, Theodore, Anesh, Brandon, Mereoni, and Malakai. Their success shows our commitment to providing incredible experiences for our guests.”
IHG’s commitment to supporting local businesses and sustainable practices is evident in its daily operations. Grand Pacific Hotel proudly serves Fiji Coffee, sourced from the “Garden Island” of Taveuni, ensuring every cup embodies the rich flavour and freshness of locally roasted beans. At InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Kama Lounge celebrates Fiji’s local flavours with signature cocktails like the “Bay Swing Sour,” which features lemongrass rum and ginger, embracing the essence of Fijian ingredients.
The HOTEC event, supported by partners such as APTC, South Pacific Coffee Company, Punjas Fiji, and Fiji Gas, provided an invaluable platform for hospitality professionals to demonstrate their skills and exchange ideas focused on quality, sustainability, and innovation.
