The commissioning of a covered walkway at Nausori International Airport saw the participation of Fiji Airports’ chief executive officer Mesake Nawari and Japanese Embassy Charge d’Affaires a.i. Kenichiro Tanaka.
Mr. Nawari emphasized the significance of the event in the context of Fiji Airports’ broader efforts to enhance facilities and services at Nausori Airport, along with its management responsibilities for 13 outer island airports on behalf of the Government of Fiji. He expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan for generously funding the stowable covered walkways at Nausori Airport, facilitated by the Asian Development Bank through the ‘Enhancing COVID-19 Preparedness for Tourism Recovery Project’ under the ‘Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific’.
Acknowledging the collaborative effort, Mr. Nawari highlighted the improved passenger experience the new covered walkway would provide, anticipating an increase in travel and commercial activity. He also mentioned Fiji Airports’ upcoming 25th Silver Jubilee in April, attributing its success to continuous support and collaboration.
Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Japanese Embassy, Mr. Tanaka, underscored the Japanese Government’s pleasure in supporting Fiji Airports’ request to fund the purchase and installation of the infrastructure. He emphasized the project’s role in restoring international tourism travel to Fiji and supporting the acquisition of essential equipment to strengthen sustainable and resilient economic growth through quality infrastructure.
