Kava Shack is a new local venture at Nawi Island Marina founded by Akisi Nailevu of Natua, Wailevu, Cakudrove. Inspired by her role in registering Savusavu’s first kava bar, the concept reflects the simplicity of traditional village kava spaces where people gather to drink kava, share stories, and strengthen community bonds. For Akisi, the heart of Kava Shack lies in creating connection — bringing together family, friends, and guests around the tanoa to experience talanoa and Fijian culture in an authentic setting. The venture also supports local farmers and small producers by sourcing ingredients locally and collaborating with nearby businesses. Alongside traditional kava preparation, Akisi has introduced kava mocktails and offers guests hands-on experiences in the customary way kava is prepared and shared. Through Kava Shack, she celebrates heritage, community, and local entrepreneurship while continuing to blend tradition with new ideas.
