The agreement was signed in China, where Rosie Travel Group’s Group General Manager, Mr. Eroni Puamau, emphasized the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
“Fiji is our home. As a Fijian family-owned business, protecting and nurturing our island environment is a priority. Our journey to electric vehicles began three years ago with extensive research and visits to electric vehicle manufacturers in China. After thorough evaluations, we selected Bonluck Bus & Coach Group (BBCG), part of the giant conglomerate China Hi-Tech Group Corporation (CHTC), to manufacture and deliver our next-generation zero-emission electric coaches. These coaches feature advanced battery-electric technology, fast charging with a 300-kilometer range, ample luggage space, and luxurious interiors designed to Australian standards,” said Mr. Puamau.
BBCG is a pioneering coach manufacturer and was the first Chinese company to receive ADR (Australian Design Rules) approval, meeting stringent design and safety standards for operation on Australian roads. The company has been at the forefront of eco-friendly transportation, introducing fully electric and hydrogen fuel cell coaches to the Australian market and exporting to over 100 countries worldwide.
At the signing ceremony, Mr. Ken Lee, Executive Director of Bonluck Bus & Coach Group, celebrated the partnership between China and Fiji in sustainable transport innovation.
“As a Chinese family-owned company leading advancements in transport technology, we see great synergy with Rosie Travel Group. This landmark initiative will transform tourism transportation in Fiji. We are proud to collaborate with Rosie on this important step toward a greener future,” said Mr. Lee.
Rosie Travel Group’s Managing Director, Mr. Tony Whitton, reinforced the company’s commitment to sustainability:
“We provide transfer solutions to over 200,000 international visitors annually, contributing significantly to Fiji’s carbon footprint. We must explore greener alternatives, and we believe China’s leadership in electric vehicle technology, coupled with Fiji’s solar energy potential, is the key. Our zero-emission journey began last year, offering our customers luxury EV private transfers. This year, we are expanding our service offerings to partners involved in large group movements such as conferences and incentives, cruise ships, and luxury private jets.
The investment in fast-charging solar panels means our EV vehicles and new coaches will be 100% powered by the Fijian sun. Our goal is ambitious—over half our fleet electric by 2030, achieving zero emissions—but we believe Fiji is ready for this transformation.”
The Rosie Travel Group’s sustainability efforts have been widely recognized. Over the past six months, the company has received two prestigious sustainability awards: one from the Prime Minister of Fiji and another at the Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards.
A critical component of this investment is the integration of advanced solar technology. In collaboration with Solar Hub Fiji, Rosie has installed the country’s first-ever solar-powered fast-charging stations at its transport hub. At a cost of $0.6 million, these stations generate 110 kilowatts of energy per hour through solar panels, reinforcing the company’s commitment to clean, renewable energy solutions.
With this groundbreaking initiative, Rosie Holidays continues to redefine sustainable travel in Fiji, setting new standards for the tourism industry while ensuring a cleaner, greener future for generations to come.
