The Government of Fiji, in collaboration with Blue Prosperity Fiji, has released preliminary findings from the country’s most extensive coral reef assessment, conducted during a four-month Ocean Science Expedition in 2023. Covering 272 reef sites across 13 provinces, the study evaluated reef health, biodiversity, and water quality, providing communities with detailed, province-specific insights. These findings, shared with local leaders at the Natural Resource Owners Committee meeting, are intended to support sustainable, community-driven ocean management, reinforcing the role of coastal communities as stewards of their marine environments.

By empowering communities with accessible scientific data and supporting ecosystem health, Fiji is advancing its National Ocean Policy goals, including the commitment to protect 30% of its waters, while promoting food security, economic resilience, and cultural preservation.
