What is loloma hour?
‘Loloma Hour’ is Fiji’s joyful take on Happy Hour—with a purpose. Rooted in the Fijian word loloma, meaning generosity and love, this nationwide initiative invites travelers to spend at least one hour giving back to the environment and communities that make the islands so extraordinary. Offered by resorts and activity providers across Fiji, Loloma Hour allows guests to participate in meaningful sustainability activities, from coral planting and beach cleanups to traditional craft-making and wildlife conservation. Built around four key pillars—wildlife, community, reef, and coastline—Loloma Hour creates an authentic, hands-on way for visitors to connect with the land and people of Fiji, leaving a positive impact long after the hour is over.

Loloma Hour at Kokomo Island Resort Fiji
On April 8, 2025, Kokomo Private Island Fiji proudly participated in Tourism Fiji’s inaugural Loloma Hour—the world’s first happy hour dedicated to the environment. In place of poolside cocktails, guests at Kokomo were invited to take part in a complimentary Marine Experience led by the resort’s dedicated Marine Team. The hour began with a thoughtful Sustainability Presentation, which shared insights into Kokomo’s ongoing environmental initiatives and emphasized the crucial role each individual plays in protecting Fiji’s fragile ecosystems. Following the presentation, guests left the shore and entered the water for a guided snorkel on the spectacular Great Astrolabe Reef, a vibrant, living example of what Kokomo strives to preserve.
The experience was a blend of education and awe, leaving participants with a stronger connection to the natural world and a deeper appreciation for the shared responsibility of safeguarding it. More than just a feel-good initiative, Loloma Hour—meaning “love” in Fijian—sparked meaningful conversations and lasting impressions. It served as a powerful reminder that true happiness during travel often stems not from what is taken, but from what is given back. Sometimes, the most memorable moments come not through indulgence, but through impact.
As the sun set on this special hour, guests departed the reef with a renewed sense of purpose and the knowledge that they had contributed to something greater than themselves. Kokomo Private Island was honoured to stand alongside Tourism Fiji in this groundbreaking celebration and remains deeply committed to conservation, culture, and community—every hour of every day.
