In Depth
Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort has become the first property in Fiji to be awarded Green Key Certification, an internationally recognised eco-label for sustainable tourism and environmental responsibility. The certification recognises hospitality businesses that meet rigorous environmental standards across energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, sustainable procurement, and community engagement.
This achievement places Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort among a select group of global hospitality providers committed to responsible tourism. According to General Manager Darren Shaw, the certification reflects the resort’s long-term commitment to sustainability and its responsibility to protect Fiji’s natural environment, marking a significant step forward for sustainable tourism in the country.
Key initiatives supporting the certification include reducing environmental impact through energy- and water-saving measures, minimising waste through responsible management and recycling, enhancing sustainable guest experiences, and supporting the local community. The certification process was led by Green Key Champions Ashwindra Naidu, Quality Manager, and Maryanne Shaw, Environment Officer, who worked closely to meet the programme’s requirements.
