South Sea Cruises Group has expanded its presence in Fiji’s Yasawa islands with the acquisition of Mai Sunset Beach Resort on Naviti Island. The beachfront property will reopen on 1 April 2026 following redevelopment that increases accommodation capacity and upgrades guest facilities, marking the Group’s first move into land-based resort operations in the Yasawas.
In Depth
Set along a sweeping 1.5-kilometre stretch of white sand, Mai Sunset Beach Resort has historically operated as a small, ten-room beachfront retreat. After an extensive refresh, the resort will reopen with expanded accommodation including private beachfront tents, garden bures and a new shared lodging option, effectively doubling its capacity. New and upgraded spaces such as a boutique and reception area, a yoga and massage deck, a watersports bure and enhanced dining facilities are designed to create a relaxed, mid-range island escape that reflects the natural beauty and laid-back character of the Yasawas.
Environmental responsibility and community engagement form a key part of the resort’s operating approach. The property runs entirely on solar energy and produces its own freshwater from an onsite well, which is treated for safe use throughout the resort. The majority of staff will be recruited and trained from the traditional landowning community, supporting local employment while ensuring guests experience authentic cultural connections during their stay.
Visitors will have access to a range of activities that highlight the surrounding environment and local culture. Seasonal manta ray encounters, village visits and marine adventures will be complemented by sunrise and sunset experiences along the extensive beachfront. The resort will also integrate with the South Sea Cruises Group’s existing marine transport network, providing convenient vessel transfers, island-hopping itineraries and new travel packaging opportunities for trade partners and independent travellers alike.
Reserve Your Adventure in Paradise

Here, white sandy beaches meet crystal-clear blue waters, palm trees sway in the gentle Pacific breeze, and each sunset paints the sky with effortless colour — no filters needed.
Spend your days enjoying the wide range of activities available at the resort and throughout the surrounding area, or simply unwind in a hammock and embrace the island pace of life. As evening falls, we gather on the beachfront to celebrate the close of another beautiful day in paradise and watch the magic of a Fijian sunset together.
